Background
Members of the Fermilab Community Task Force on Public Participation
Fermilab invited individuals to serve on the Community Task Force on Public Participation because they represent a broad range of community interests. Members include Fermilab neighbors, educators, business people, environmentalists, retirees, a high school student, a religious leader, a farmer, and residents that work with diverse communities. There are also members that represent the Boards of Kane, DuPage, and DeKalb Counties, as well as the mayors of two communities adjacent to the laboratory. In addition, two Fermilab scientists have been asked to serve on the task force, and a representative of the U.S. Department of Energy will serve as an ex-officio (i.e., non-voting) member of the group.
The Northern Illinois University Center for Government Studies helped Fermilab convene this task force. In Summer 2003 and Winter 2004, researchers from the center spoke to community members and interviewed potential members. After speaking to a wide variety of interested individuals, the researchers provided Fermilab with recommendations regarding potential task force members.
The group brings tremendous experiences and knowledge to the task force, and Fermilab is looking forward to the insights they will provide regarding interactions between the laboratory and the community. Members' names are listed below, with their place of residence in parentheses.
